Ontology Design for Information Systems
Ontology has its origin in philosophy, and since then it has played a vital role in
the realm of AI (Artificial Intelligence), Linguistics and Logic. But recently with the promulgation of Internet and other related technologies, the role of ontologies in information systems is gradually increasing.
A commonly accepted definition of an ontology has been given by Tom Gruber (1993) as:
